Harry E. Penney passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 94. He was at his home in Davie, Florida, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Born in 1930 and raised in Syracuse, New York, Harry attended Christian Brothers Academy, graduating in 1948. He then joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country for four years. After completing his military service, Harry began working in customer service for Capital Airlines in 1956. Known for his kind and outgoing demeanor, he was even featured in promotional material with the slogan:
While working at National Airport, he met his wife, Norma Jean. They were married for 56 years until her passing in 2014. After Capital Airlines merged with United Airlines in 1961, Harry transferred to Dulles Airport. The family lived in Reston, Virginia, before relocating to Broward County in 1976. He continued his career at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, where he worked for United Airlines until his retirement.
In retirement, Harry became an avid golfer and frequently played at Davie Golf Club. He was also a member of the Fort Lauderdale Small Boat Club, where he enjoyed boating and playing in the billiards league. In his later years, Harry's favorite pastime was playing poker with his friends.
Harry's family and many friends will deeply miss his warm smile, sense of humor, and wisdom.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane Treu and Kay Turk; grandchildren Michael, Steven, Carolyn, Christine, and Courtney; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kylee.
The Penney family extends their heartfelt thanks for the thoughts and prayers during this time.
A celebration of Harry's life will take place following the viewing on October 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pine Island Country Club, 9400 Pine Ridge Drive, Davie, FL 33324. All are welcome to attend.
