Harry Lee Phillips

 Harry Lee Phillips, born on November 27, 1947, in Haywood County, North Carolina, passed away on September 12, 2025, at his residence in Candler, North Carolina. A dedicated employee of Champion Paper, Harry spent his career working in maintenance, where his hard-working nature made an indelible impact on those around him.

Harry served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a testament to his strong character and commitment to serving others. He was not just a soldier but a dedicated dad, embodying humility and a straightforward approach to life. Known for speaking his mind and his love for southern cooking, Harry's personality reflected a balance of warmth and candor that endeared him to friends and family alike.

In his younger years, Harry’s adventurous spirit led him to enjoy hunting and exploring the outdoors. He loved his Harley motorcycles, trucks, and sports cars, and also had a deep enthusiasm for attending local races. A devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Panthers, he found joy in both the thrill of competition and the camaraderie that comes with being part of a fan community.

Harry leaves behind his beloved sons, Mark Phillips and his wife Brenda of Arden, Travis Phillips of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Justin Phillips of Birmingham, Alabama. He was a proud grandfather to Colt and Diesel Phillips, who will surely carry on his legacy of love and laughter. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ken Zellner, as well as cousins Louetta Constance and Ronnie Benson, and his wife Sarah, along with their children Brian and "Little Ron."

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Pruitt Phillips, and his siblings, Larry Phillips, Betty Phillips, Mary Lou Zellner, and Ruby Benson. His lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have known him is a testament to the life he led; a good man, a high roller in spirit and love. His memory will be cherished by many, a beacon of strength and dedication that will continue to inspire those left behind.

The family will receive friends from 8:45 am to 9:15 am at the Chapel of Faith at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 10:00 am at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. Chaplain Jeremiah Richards will be officiating.

The care of Mr. Phillips has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
