HARRY WHATLEY Thomas Harold “Harry” Whatley, 91, resident of 316 Janeway, husband of Elizabeth Stogner “Lib” Whatley, died December 6, 2009 at NHC of Greenwood. Born in Greenwood County, November 16, 1918, he was a son of the late William Thomas and Lila Bess Nelson Whatley. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and formerly owned and operated Whatley Bros. in Greenwood. Mr. Whatley was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Carole Whatley Mauldin and husband Charles B. Mauldin; one brother, William T. Whatley, Jr. and wife Mary, all of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Jennifer Vipperman and husband Dan of Greenwood, Meridith Sauer and husband Matthew of Dayton, OH, Charles B. Mauldin, III and Thomas W. Mauldin and wife Erica, all of Greenwood; five great-grandchildren Thomas Clayton Mauldin, Hallie Elizabeth Vipperman, Lauren Grace Vipperman, Lila Caroline Sauer and Meg Elizabeth Maudlin. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Hopkins and Dr. J. William Harris officiating. Private family burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens prior to the service. The family is at the home of Charlie and Carole Mauldin, 2110 McCormick Highway. Memorials may be made to the Bowers Rodgers Home, PO Box 1252, Greenwood, SC 29648 or First Baptist Church, 722 Grace Street, 29649 or to the charity of one’s choice.
