Hartmut Wiederhold Obituary

Hartmut "Dusty" Wiederhold MT. PLEASANT - Dusty Wiederhold passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family in Mount Pleasant SC at the age of 82 after a long fight with cancer. Dusty was born in Metz, France in 1942 during World War 2. He emigrated from Germany to Columbus, GA in 1956 with his family. He earned the nickname "Dusty" from one of his high school teachers, and it stayed with him his whole life. He studied Architecture at Georgia Tech and served in the US Army Reserve with the 178th Combat Engineers. He had a successful 50 year career as a Real Estate Developer with projects all over the southeast. Dusty loved his family and friends and they loved him back. He possessed an amazing gift of connecting with people and investing in lifelong friendships. He was a long-time member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Dusty's passions included German sports cars, sailing, hiking in the mountains, and sharing a glass of wine or a great meal with people he loved. An amazing grandfather, he spent many hours kayaking, flying drones and building RC cars with his grandsons. Dusty is survived by his wife, Susan, sister, Waltraut (Wally) Greenfield, daughters, Brittany Brandt and Tiffany Senden, son-in-law, Daniel Senden, and grandsons, Christian and Reagan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Konrad Wiederhold, and his parents, Margaret and George Wiederhold. Dusty's Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm Saturday, December 7, at the Chapel at Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center - Prostate Cancer Research.

What a lovely human is Dusty. I just cant say enough about how he saw the good in everyone of his friends and family. What a great example of a life well lived, loving our Lord, being a great Dad, husband, mentor, confidant, friend. It is easy to say " I love you, brother" to Dusty. I will miss you, my friend. I will miss our connection and our dinners and they way I could be myself around your lovely spirit. God Bless You! To Susan, Brittany, Tiffany, Daniel, Christain, Reagan...may God Bless you and keep you in the loving palms of his glorious hands. May you have peace knowing Dusty is with our Lord in heaven!

Susan,
May you and your family find comfort in the wonderful memories of joyful times together in the days ahead. I have great memories of finding wines he was seeking and of course his love of momma´s coconut cream pie. He had a full life well lived! May God bless you with strength and love.
Heartfelt condolences,
Karen Elsey

My sincerest condolences to Susan and the family. I met Helmut (and Susan) some 35 years ago when Andrea Shalal (whose grandmother is the sister of Helmut`s mom) and I visited them at their home outside of Atlanta. Helmut was a genuinely warm hearted man with a big smile and a welcoming nature. Ruhe in Frieden! Rest in Peace, Helmut!

Wow, where to even start? I guess by saying that to know Dusty, was to love him. He was the type of person that when you met him, you felt like you had known him for forever.
I first met Dusty and Susan when I moved next door to them 12 years ago. We became fast friends (or family really) as Dusty & I both shared the German heritage, & we both owned shih-tzu's! I lost my own dad some years later, and Dusty didn't hesitate in assuming the fatherly role and treating me just like one of his own. I will forever be grateful to him for all of the conversations, advice and help he gave to me over the years. I knew I could always reach out to him if I ever needed anything at anytime.
Dusty I know you would have lived forever if you could've, you had a zest for life like no other. You were one of the best humans I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my lifetime. You will never be far from my thoughts & I will miss you forever. For now, I will take solace in knowing you are whole again and living it up in heaven with all of our loved ones. I know Sophie is on your lap as we speak! God speed and rest easy!
