Harvey Keckley Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 2, 2026.
Harvey Allen Keckley, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
Harvey was born on December 7, 1932, in Utica, Ohio, to the late Harry Leslie and May Lilley Keckley. He was a 1951 graduate of Homer High School.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army from May 13, 1954 to April 26, 1956. Following his military service, Harvey dedicated 33 years to Columbia Gas Transmission at the Bangs Operating Center, where he worked as a welder and later as a welding shop foreman. After retirement, he devoted his time to caring for his grandchildren and continued serving his community by delivering medications for Medical Arts Pharmacy, CVS, and Foster's Pharmacy until the age of 86, touching countless lives along the way.
On June 15, 1958, Harvey married the love of his life, Eleanor Jo Keckley, with whom he shared many wonderful years. He is survived by his beloved wife; his children, Jeffrey Allen (Denise) Keckley and Jacqueline (Robert) Wihl; four grandchildren, Zachary (Angela) Keckley, Rachel (Kyle) Lilley, Luke (Emily) Earnest, and Ryan (Danielle) Wihl; and nine great-grandchildren, Sophia, Kohen, Nora, Dominic, Skylar, Marley, Emma, Avalynn, and Lincoln. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his siblings: Edna White, Faye Carpenter, Harry Wayne "Pete" Keckley, Dwight Keckley, Harold Vernon "Mike" Keckley, Hazel Harvey, and Ruth Elliott.
Harvey was a devoted member of Gay Street United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, usher, and participant in mission projects with the Appalachian Service Project. He also handcrafted the pew candelabras that continue to be used during candlelight services.
Harvey will be remembered as a kind and caring man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. He never met a stranger and made it his life's mission to help others feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. His compassion and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
The family wishes to thank The Ohio Eastern Star Home for their loving care of Harvey the past few years and for Capital City Hospice these past several months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Harvey's memory to the Living Memorial Fund at Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050
Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 North Gay Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 11:00am at the Church, officiated by Mr. Roger Marra with graveside services to follow at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
