David was a Vietnam War veteran who proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States
Marine Corps for 8½ years. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal with 1 star;
National Defense Service Medal; and the Meritorious Mast.
David graduated from Wooster High School in 1961. Following his time in the military,
he graduated with a degree in Chemistry from Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC.
His early career was spent as an educator, teaching science and mathematics, at Nash
Technical College in Rocky Mount. During his tenure at Nash Technical College, he was
instrumental in developing the first computer programming curriculum in the State of
North Carolina. This led to a career change and move to Fuquay-Varina, NC where he
was successful in a career in Information Technology with the NC Education Assistance
Authority; Electronic Testing Labs; and Amdocs in the Research Triangle Park, NC area
until his retirement in 2007.
While living in Rocky Mount, he met his beloved wife, Libby. They were married in
1974 and enjoyed a wonderful life together. They established roots in the communities of
Rocky Mount, NC and Fuquay-Varina, NC. In retirement, David and Libby built their
retirement home and settled in Chase City, VA. They were very active in the community
in various civic and church organizations. David was a member of the Lake Country
Detachment #1085 Marine Corps League of South Hill, VA; the Chase City Lions Club;
and he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church, Chase
City.
David enjoyed working with his hands and spent many hours in his woodworking shop
creating beautiful pieces of furniture. He and Libby enjoyed selling the fruits of their
labors at the South Hill Farmer's Market and surrounding areas. Most recently, they also
enjoyed jaunts all over the local countryside to take in the beautiful scenery of South-
Central Virginia.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Outlaw Keim of the home.
He is also survived by his daughter, Joy Sallenger Skinner and granddaughter, Kailan
Dru Skinner of Wilmington, NC; two siblings, Larry Keim (Frances) of Texas and
