Harvey “Van” Townsend Jr., 64 of Gilmer, Texas passed away on August 28, 2023 at home. Harvey was born on October 24, 1958 in Palestine, Texas to Harvey Townsend Sr and Bonnie Berryhill Townsend.
Van was a Gladewater High School Graduate, class of 1977 where he was a football star. He enjoyed being outdoors playing on his tractor, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. He was always helping those in need and never met a stranger. Before his retirement he spent 40 happy years working for Ricoh of America. Van loved his family and treasured every moment he spent with them. One of his favorite things was going on a van quest with his family where they would get in the van and take a trip wherever the wind blew them and enjoy their time together. The memories he leaves behind will always have a place in the hearts of all who met him.
Van is survived by his father, Harvey Townsend Sr.; his beloved wife, Danette “Dee” Townsend; sons, Kameron Townsend, Billy Townsend and wife Penny, Harvey Townsend III, Rickey Townsend and Landon Clark; daughters, Tiffany Lowery, Sierra Clark and Ashley Moore; brothers, Robert Townsend and Ray Townsend and wife Cookie; sister, Christine Ousset and husband Joe; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Van is preceded in death by his mother Bonnie Berryhill Townsend.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 4 o’clock in the evening in the Chapel of Croley Funeral Home, Gladewater, Texas.
