Harvey Walker

Funeral services for Harvey Walker, 78, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2024, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Blackjack Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker passed away on August 2, 2024, in Athens.
Woodrow Harvey Walker was born on September 20, 1945, in the Blackjack Community of Henderson County, Texas. He was the son of Woodrow Summerfield Walker and Harvie Lucille (Hood) Walker. Harvey graduated from Athens High School in 1963 and received his associate degree from Henderson County Junior College. He started surveying in 1964 at the age of 19 and became a registered surveyor in 1976, owning and operating Walker Surveying from 1983 until his retirement in 2008. In his free time, he enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, going to the boats in Shreveport, and traveling to casinos in Grant, Oklahoma, or Las Vegas. He loved his grandbabies, his great-grandbabies, and his great-great-grandbaby, all of whom affectionately call him "Paw." He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Nolan Walker, Nathan Walker, and Bill Walker; two sisters, Norene Killingsworth and Marilyn Powers; and two sons, John Mark Walker and Woodrow Kevin Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Walker of Athens; his son, Harvey Walker and wife Kim of Athens; his brother, Jon Walker and wife Judy of Willis; his grandchildren, Ashley Walker and husband Tim Raxter, Tyler Walker and wife Jenifer, Bailey Carson and husband Cody, Meagan Boyd and husband Cameron, and Brittany Barr and husband Jerry; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Raxter, Trenton Raxter, Abby Raxter, Ashlynn Raxter, Levi Boyd, Navy Boyd, Paxton Eads, Zoey Barr, and Ryan Barr; his great-great-granddaughter, Braelynn Hayes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 10-11:00 a.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
