Haskell Gordon, 88, formerly of Crimora, died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at The Brian Center, in Fincastle.

He was born January 20, 1921, in Friars Hill, West Virginia, a son of the late Ernest Cleveland Gordon and Texie Pearl Eggleston Gordon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice "Jimmy" Gordon; and a brother, Edward Gordon.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the Pacific Theatre for two and half years, receiving five service medals, including two Bronze stars. He was a Master Mason of the Corinthian Lodge #93 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Haskell retired from C and O Railroad. He was an avid golfer and bowler.

Surviving are a sister, Alice Gordon Austin of Tabb, Virginia; a brother, Earl Gordon of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Gordon of Covington; a special cousin, Nigel Smith of Lexington; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews; including his caregivers, Gary, Wayne, and Ronald Gordon.

A service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at McDow Funeral Home, by Pastor Bob Johnson. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, with honors conducted by the American Legion Post 340.

Memorial contributions may be made to McMillion Methodist Church in Friars Hill, West Virginia.
