Hassan Abdul Shaheed, who many knew as "Robert" or "Bobby Hill" was born on September 5, 1953, in Passaic, New Jersey to the late James Hill and Ellnap Nottie Polk Hill. He had three brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by Kevin and Jo Ann Hill His siblings are James "Jimmy" (Donna) Hill, "Baha"(Nicole) Muhammad and Belinda (Jesse) Alexander.
On June 18, 1986, he celebrated a commitment with his truest companion, Willamae Shaheed. To this union, Omar Shaheed, of Passaic, NJ was born. Omar and Hassan had a unique, special relationship that transcended beyond parenthood. Hassan was not only a father to Omar, but also at times his teacher, his little league coach, his rock, his support and his mentor.
Hassan has been an amazing grandfather to his grandson Dylan, with whom he loved to play board games, eat snacks, watch movies together, and celebrate family holidays. Hassan made himself available on many occasions to babysit Dylan and just be an overall role model. They always had fun and Hassan was always excited to tell his parents about the shenanigans Dylan would get in to at "Dada's" house. He even extended that love to the family's pets of whom he was able to get to know and love deeply.
Hassan also had a very special relationship with his late sister, JoAnn and her son, his nephew, Kevin Hill. They loved Hassan so immensely and unconditionally and enjoyed so many special memories together, such as holidays, sports games, and barbeques. Everyone loves to reminisce about how excited and hyped Hassan would _get when he would watch super bowl games and NBA Playoffs at their home. He genuinely felt at home with and was always happy to spend these precious moments with them.
Hassan spent a great portion of every day talking and laughing. with his god daughter, Sharon, which was something he always looked forward to.
He also had an amazing relationship with his niece, Khadijah, who he could always count on to check in on him and make his day better.
He spent as much as time as possible with all his siblings, cousins, in laws and extended family as he could.
Hassan, along with his siblings, were raised in the city of Passaic. Hassan attended Passaic High. School and furthered his studies to earn a Bachelor's Degree at Rutgers University. He taught at the Passaic and Essex county school systems. His passion for teaching left a lasting impact on the lives of many students throughout his career. He then joined Mosque #12 in Paterson to further his faith and become closer to God. At the end of his days, he requested Baptism, and he was baptized by his cousin James Alexander.
Hassan was always an advocate for learning and the local youth. He also committed some of his time to the elections and other community events. He had a deep passion for music, Motown, and his record player. He will always be remembered for his style, his love for music, and his infectious humor.
A typical day for Hassan was wearing his best outfit, topped with his Stetson hat. Listening to his favorite records and watching his favorite shows. He will be sorely missed by his family, Dylan, God daughter Sharon Israel, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former students and their families, and colleagues - just to list a few of the lives he touched.
