Hayden Adkison

Hayden Adkison passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025 at the Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana, MO following an eight day stay in Hannibal Regional Hospital in the stepdown unit. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO. Rev. Terry Cook officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. A reception will be held following interment from 12:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Keely Center in Louisiana, MO. He was born on July 3, 1928 to father, Lonnie Adkison and mother Roxie Adkison. He has lived and enriched full life of 97 years surrounded by family and friends. He was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Louisiana, attending Sunday School as a youth. He attended Louisiana Public Schools graduating high school. At age 17, he enlisted into the US Marines and served from June 3, 1946 with an honorable discharge on May 30, 1947 as a Private First Class. This service was at the end of WWII. He was drafted into the US Army on September 7, 1950 to September 9, 1952 during the Korean War. He proudly served his country and spoke frequently with reverence regarding his experiences. After his discharge from the US Marines, Hayden enrolled and attended Chicago Technical College in Chicago, IL where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction Engineering on September 26, 1950. Hayden has spent most of his life in Louisiana, MO. He worked at the Button Factory during high school. Also, he lived in Elsmere, Kentucky for one and a half years working for the Vulcan Company. He had worked for Hercules in Louisiana for many years until retiring from there. Hayden was married to Phyllis Schade in Quincy, IL at the Lutheran Church on October 17, 1955 from this date until the time of his death. He is survived by 3 sons, Larry Adkison of Springfield, MO; Kevin Adkison (Jacque) of Loveland, CO; and Rod Adkison (Dianna) of Jefferson City, MO; and Marcia Dryden (Jeff) of Republic, MO; and Kris Adkison of Dennison, IL. Hayden has 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one sister, Doris Jane Dawson. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Tim Dryden; one brother, Bill Adkison; and one sister, Roxanna Adkison. Hayden was a lifetime member of the American Legion; member of the VFW; member of the Apple Core Drill Team and went to many National Conventions. They are known throughout the United States. He was an avid hunter, especially the hunts and adventures with his son, Rod. He also enjoyed flea markets, playing pinochle, and gun shows. He especially enjoyed gardening and planted many tomatoes.
