Hayward Woods, affectionately known as Bobby or Bob, was born December 14, 1939 in Sharon, Georgia to Rosa Lee Butler and Hayward Woods Sr. At age 15, he moved to Youngstown, OH and graduated from East High School in 1959.
Bobby loved spending time outdoors, camping, and sharing his passion for cooking and barbecue with family and friends. When his children were young, Bobby would load the family van, hitch on camper and head for the camping grounds. Together with his kids and their visiting cousins, the family travelled in Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania creating memories filled with laughter, campfires, and togetherness. Closer to home, Bobby and his children spent warm summer days swimming at Mosquito Lake.
Bobby loved being around family and friends, hosting gatherings with food and music. He was proud of being part of the Mar Vels singing group in the 1960s, whose record, "My Guardian Angel" made the top chart list.
Bobby was honorably discharged after serving two years in the U.S. Army.
He retired In 1996 after more than 30 years with Packard Electric.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Christine Jones Woods; his children, Cynthia Woods of Detroit, Michigan, Kenneth (Lisa) Woods and Matthew Woods of Youngstown, Angela Woods and Justine Jones of Columbus; his sisters Mary Woods Bryant and Andrea Sims of Atlanta, GA ; his brothers, Robert Woods, Johnny Benjamin Woods, and Freddie Woods Sr., of Atlanta,GA; 14 grandchildren 23 great grandchildren; two brothers in law, Walter Jones and Aldric Jones; sister-in-law, Stephanie Jones; and a host of family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt Mattie Butler who raised him; brothers, Milton Dorsey, and Roy Woods; sister Mary Elizabeth Butler; Grandson, Christopher Caylin Woods; and in-laws Gregory and Willie Jones.
Visitation will be Friday, November 7, 2025 1:00 - 2:00 PM at L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2 PM..
