Hazel Lujean Melton Darby was born May 27, 1930 and departed this life February 25, 2024. She was the daughter of Robert Ray and Ollie Mae (Reid) Melton.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wylie Darby; several siblings; daughters, Juanita Standard and Rebecca Sue Smith; and son, Billy Darby.
She is survived by daughters, Kathleen Wilson of Bristol, TN and TJ Darby, of Alton, MO; grandchildren, Billy Clay Darby and wife, Angela; Terry Standard and wife, Shay; Chuck Darby and wife, Brandy; Paige Bowles and husband, Dickie "Nookie"; Michelle Crowell; Carol Ann Ayala; David Darby and wife, Kym; and Priscilla Andrews and husband, Gentry. Hazel also leaves numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel was a long-time resident of Charleston, MS and relocated to Alton, MO in the 1990s. She was a member of Willow Springs Assembly of God (Enid, Mississippi), and Evening Time Lighthouse (Alton, Missouri). Hazel was an excellent conversationalist, wonderful cook, and talented seamstress. She spent many hours making clothing for her children and grandchildren. She loved gospel music, family gatherings, and attending church services. She had a knack for making holidays extra special. Hazel dearly loved her family and made many sacrifices for them. She will be greatly missed.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 27th in Alton, MO. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Bethel Cemetery in Enid, MS. Rev. Ben Pruitt (husband of Great-Granddaughter, Brittany Bowles Pruitt) will officiate both services.
