David Darby Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home on Mar. 8, 2026.
David Lee Darby, 75, died peacefully at home in Stamping Ground, Kentucky, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born in Williamson, West Virginia on March 8, 1950, to the late Emma Jean Stanley Darby and Ernest Ferrell Darby. After attending Williamson High School, David entered the U.S. Marine Corps while he was still just 18. He served valiantly in Vietnam as a Machine Gunner. Once home in West Virginia, he met his future bride, Wanda Elkins, at the Justice Drive In. They married and David worked in the local coal mines. He became a chief electrician as a miner and achieved both State and Federal certifications. David and Wanda moved their family to Scott County in early 1984, where he continued his electrician work. He was self-employed and remained busy throughout his career. In his spare time, he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and riding horses. He also loved horsepower and classic cars. He'd rebuilt many old cars, mostly Chevys, especially '67-'69 Camaros and '55 Bel Airs. David was Baptist, and a loving husband, father, and Papaw.

David will be remembered by his wife of 55 years, Wanda Darby; his sons, David Lee (Kelly) Darby II, and Gregory Scott Darby; his grandchildren, Kimberly Darby, Dustin Darby, and Chase (Kaylea) Highlander; 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Johnny Ray Darby; a sister, Linda Williamson; and a special niece, Tammy Lambert. David was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest Darby Jr., and Danny Ferrell Darby; and a sister, Patricia Pyrtle.

Visitation for David will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky. The Funeral Service will be the following day, Tuesday, March 10, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in procession to the Masonic Cemetery in Stamping Ground, where Pallbearers will be Rollie Marshall, Gary Riddle, Michael Partin, Everette Partin III, Jimmy Offutt, and John Riddle. Military Honors will be presented at the Funeral and Graveside.

Friends and family are encouraged to share their condolences and memories here on David's tribute wall.
