Hazel DeVerna Obituary
Hazel Marie DeVerna, 89, a former Toledo, OH, resident who was born Christmas Day 1933, in Ottawa Lake, MI, to parents Harry and Goldie (Fisher) Keck, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023, while under hospice care. She was a 1951 graduate of Whitmer High School. Over the years, Hazel had many jobs. From farm hand to bank clerk, to gardener, to even hauling coal for the schoolhouse. The most important, and the job she loved the most was being a wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. Hazel married Dallas DeVerna on October 25, 1952, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Ottawa Lake, MI. Dallas passed July 3, 2018, after 66 years of happiness.
She is survived by her son, Donald (Barb) DeVerna; daughter, Linda (Jason) Blount; 2 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and daughter in law, Cheryle DeVerna. Hazel was also preceded in death by son, David DeVerna; and sisters, Thelma Guinn and Martha Wineinger.
Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, Friday, June 2, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 a.m. Hazel will be laid to rest beside Dallas at Toledo Memorial Park. Those wishing to offer memorials are asked to consider the Gentiva Hospice. Hazel will be remembered for her beautiful smile and for how much she loved her family. She will be dearly missed!
