Hazel Gooch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schmid Funeral Home - Mt. Washington on Jan. 23, 2026.
Hazel Louise Gooch, 83, of Mt. Washington, passed away on January 23, 2026. She was a retired employee of the former Capitol Holdings Company and a faithful member of Shepherdsville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Hazel's faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she now rests peacefully in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

Hazel loved to travel and especially enjoyed trips to the beach, visits to Bernheim Forest-where she delighted in taking her grandsons hiking and spending time outdoors. Above all else, she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Matt Allen; her parents, Pearl and Perry Gooch; her sisters, Mable Bailey, Mary Mitchell, Virginia Green, and Norma Jean Carr; and her brothers, William, C.W., and James Gooch.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Allen (Tim); her brother-in-law, Larry Carr; her grandchildren, Brian Allen (Theresa) and Zachary Allen (Lauren Reynolds); and her great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brayden, Teagan, and Tynlee Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Schmid Funeral Home in Mt. Washington, with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.

Denise and family,

I am so sorry that Hazel's life here on earth is over, but she is already in a much better place in Heaven. I so enjoyed all the years that we got to travel together, all the hikes in Bernheim, camping in the Smokies and being another of her "big sisters." I shall miss her dearly.
