Hazel King Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by CLOSED-Selma Funeral Home and Pineview Memory Gardens on Jun. 11, 2024.
Hazel Lee King, more commonly known to those who loved her as “Grandma Lee” passed away peacefully on Monday June 10, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA

Born on October 5, 1937, in Farmersville, AL to Walter H and Sarah Ida Parrish. Lee spent 86 wonderful years spreading love, joy, sarcasm and sass to all around her.

Lee was retired civil service from Maxwell Airforce Base and spent 19 years at Pitts, Pitts and Williams. Lee never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone, even her trips to the post office was a reunion every time she went.

Lee was a member of First Baptist Opelika and previously at Elkdale Baptist Church (Selma, AL) and Sister Springs Baptist Church (Tyler, AL). Lee could always be found helping around the church, typically in the kitchen. She was always willing to serve the Lord in any capacity, no matter the task. Outside of the church, Lee spent most of her time with family.

Lee and her best friend and lifelong love of 35 years Mike, traveled to many places. Outside of the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events, she and Mike loved going to the coast together. They would go and watch the boats, the people, and enjoying the salty air while eating fresh fried shrimp. Lee loved her family, boat rides, watching Auburn football, traveling with Mike, and of course cooking.

She is survived by her love Mike Scroggins; daughter, Kim Lewis (Phil); grandchildren, Kyle Lewis (Sallie) and Sarah-Callin Moat (Caleb); great-grandchildren, Keegan and Turner; baby sister, Nancy Troha; brother-in-law, Doug King; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter H & Sarah Ida Parrish; siblings, Pep Parrish, Pete Parrish, Jewel Johnston, Frances Hill and Pat King.

Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by Lee are invited to Elkdale Baptist Church (Selma, AL) from 1pm - 2pm  on Friday, June 14, 2024 for visitation and the funeral service beginning at 2pm.

Burial to follow at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL.
