Hazel Kirkendall

Hazel Elaine Kirkendall was born May 23, 1935 in Kalamazoo Michigan to Paul and Dorothy Conrad. She passed away on July 6, 2025 at the age of 90.

Hazel married Bob Kirkendall on August 10, 1957, they were married for 62 years before he passed.

Hazel loved to cook for family and friends – she and Bob took their motor home to the race track to cook when her sons and grandsons were racing and provided food in the press box during Portage Northern football games. Her lasagna, meatballs and "ground stuff" were special favorites. She loved making flower arrangements and continued to do so until last year. She worked as a Detention Room Monitor at Portage Northern High School and later as a lunch room lady at Angling Road School. She and Bob were avid sports fans and very active supporters of the Portage Northern Booster Club for many years.

Hazel and Bob had five children, Nancy (Scott) Daniels, Bob (Chonie) Kirkendall, Tim (Vickie) Kirkendall, Bruce (Renee) Kirkendall and Todd (Linda) Kirkendall. Thirteen grandchildren – Kristen (Kyle) Jones, Kate (Grant) Foulsham, Rob Kirkendall, Jamie Kirkendall, Patrick (Jessica) Kirkendall, Meghan (Tim) Bullis, Mitchel Kirkendall, Kate (Leroy) Fink, Samantha (Scott) Frisk, Jacob (Erica Schiller) Kirkendall, Laura Kirkendall, Joe (Amy) Kirkendall and Jim Kirkendall, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. As you can imagine, there have been many large and boisterous celebrations.

She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Gearig, Jean (Stan) Whipple, Norma Courtney, her sister-in-law Joyce Conrad and many nieces and nephews. Hazel was proceeded in death by her husband Bob, both parents and her brothers Chuck and Larry.

The celebration of Hazel's life will be held at a later date.
