Mrs. Mary Hazel Fitch Oliver, age 91, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at her residence after several months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Butler Fitch and Jessie Rascoe Fitch and was married for over 71 years to Harold Dean “Sonny” Oliver, who survives. She retired from Burlington Industries with over 25 years of service and was a member of the National Professional Secretary Association, and served a term as President. Hazel loved her church family and was a lifetime member of Union Ridge Church, where she was a member of the Richard Jackson Circle and also held several different church offices over the years. She cherished her granddaughters, loved fashionable clothing, sewing, trips to the beach and was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. Hazel enjoyed time with many friends shopping, going to the State Fair, and couple’s dinners and card nights. In the past few years she constantly spoke of regular visits from Henry and Lorraine Chandler, whose caring and humor always lifted her sprits.
Mrs. Oliver is survived by her beloved husband of the home; her son, Ricky Oliver and wife, Gail; her daughter, Lisa Oliver and husband, Greg Walker; two grandchildren, Jessica and Olivia Walker; nieces, Claudia McCoy and Glenda Crawford; and nephews; Don and Ron Bright; brothers-in-law, Gene (Pat), Bobby (Jean), Gordon (Cindy) Oliver and Tommy Glenn; and sisters-in-law, Edna Blanchard, Anne Suggs (Cecil), Jane Scott (Tony Stafford), Kathy Oliver (Danny Scott) and Margie Oliver. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Bright and Pauline Ward; brothers, Curry and Holt Fitch; brothers-in-law, Allen, Johnny, Jack and Forrest Oliver; and sisters-in-law, Vivian Scott and Jeanette Glenn.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Union Ridge Church Cemetery by Rev. Dan Ficklin. Mrs. Oliver will be available for public viewing from 1:00 – 5:00 PM Friday afternoon at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
