Hazel Gunter Quick

Hazel Gunter Quick, age 99, of Oklahoma City OK was born April 5, 1926 to PV and Thelma Gunter, and awoke in heaven on January 26, 2026. She was born in Bethlehem AR, later lived in Hickory Plains AR and graduated High School from Beebe AR. After graduating she accepted a job serving our country at the Ford Bacon Davis munitions plant in Jacksonville AR. After the war, she worked at Stiff Jewelers in Little Rock AR - the source of her lifelong fondness for wearing beautiful jewelry. While working there she met the love of her life - James N. (Jimmy) Quick; they married on February 16, 1947; their 62-year marriage took them on quite an adventure through several cities in Arkansas, Alabama and Tennessee as she supported Jimmy throughout the advancement of his 40+ year career with Exxon. They finally settled in Jonesboro AR in 1964 to raise their four children. Hazel worked part-time as a bookkeeper for over 20 years with Quality Gladiolas Gardens - a regional fresh flower wholesaler which led to another lifelong passion: beautiful fresh flowers. After their "retirements" Jimmy and Hazel relocated to Oklahoma City in 1992. In every town they lived, Hazel found a place to serve in the local Church of the Nazarene ... she taught Sunday School, served as World Missions coordinator, VBS Director, was a guest speaker at church conferences and lay retreats. She was passionate about her love of Jesus Christ and never wanted to miss the opportunity to share it with others. Hazel was a master at mentoring others in their walk with the Lord and she never failed to pray for her family, extended family, church family and the RK Black 'work' family in her daily times of prayer and devotions. Several years after the death of her husband Jimmy in 2009, Hazel married Mel O'Bannon of Oklahoma City on June 8, 2013; they enjoyed over 11 years of companionship before his death on February 5, 2025. Throughout her life Hazel was known as a bold force of nature for Christ; she was an exceptional Mother, Nana and raving fan of all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She demonstrated an unshakable faith, integrity and love in every interaction. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents - PV and Thelma Gunter, her brothers Elton, Johnny and Les Gunter, and her sister Marie Bertrand. Hazel is survived by her son James Gary Nolan Quick II and wife Cassandra and their daughters Dreu Perry and RianDei Hazel Quick; Hazel's daughter Beverly Marie Quick and her children J. Sartin, Kristin Galloway and husband Beau and their sons Grayson, Gage and Griffin; and LaNeale Robertson and husband Chris and their children Holland and Oscar; Hazel's daughter Cynthia Quick Black and husband Chris and children Meredith and Blake Hamrick and their daughter Vivian; Hayden Black and Libby Herzig; and Cooper and Meagan Black and their children Noah and Camden; and Hazel's youngest daughter - Patricia Quick Gray and husband Mark. Hazel is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly; eventually she was the last living relative from her generation so they became 'more kids of mine!' This Godly woman will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family looks forward to seeing friends and relatives on Wednesday, February 4 from 5 to 7 pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home.
