Hazel L. Roberts, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep and into the arms of the Lord on Feb 6, 2026.
She was born on May 26, 1941 in Cushman, Ark. She grew up in humble beginnings and knew the value of hard work and supporting her family. In addition, she was an avid basketball player and graduated from Cushman High School in 1959.
She married Johnnie Roberts on Sep 23, 1962 and moved to Derby, and raised their three daughters, Tanya, Janice, and Andrea. They lived in the same house for over 55 years and loved being a part of the Derby community. Hazel was an active member of Pleasantview Baptist Church where she was a member of the Grace Sunday School class. Hazel always had a servant’s heart and served not only in her church, but showed love to friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed being on a bowling league and was a pitcher for the church softball team. Her most important role was being a homemaker; however, she was known by many kids from her days working part-time in lunch rooms within Derby. She enjoyed many wonderful vacations with Johnnie and their friends, but her greatest joy was spending time with her 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters Tanya (Pat) Murray of Olathe, Kan., Janice Williams of Derby, and Andrea (Bryan) Key of Derby; sister Billie Hollowell of Mt. Pleasant, Ark.; and 8 grandchildren Jessica, Sean, and Brandan Murray, Ryan, Austin, and Preston Williams, and Brady and Alex Key.
She is preceded in death by husband Johnnie Roberts, parents Verner and Vida Barnes, and her sister Oma Jean Brown of Cushman, Ark.
A visitation with family present will be held on Thursday, Feb 12, 2026 from 5:00 -7:00 PM at Smith Mortuary, Derby. Service will be held on Friday, Feb 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM at OneChurch in Pleasantview in Derby. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
