Heath Tolliver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes - Clio Chapel on Feb. 2, 2026.
TOLLIVER, Heath Cruise - of Swartz Creek, age 38, our warrior who bravely fought cancer for over three years, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, with his loving mom and dad by his side. Heath came into this world on May 1, 1987, and lived every day with purpose, passion, and an unwavering drive to serve others.

Heath graduated from Swartz Creek High School with the class of 2005 and simultaneously earned an Associate Degree in Science from Mott Community College - an early reflection of his determination and work ethic. That same year, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After completing boot camp and jump school at Fort Benning, Georgia, he served honorably from 2005 to 2011 in long-range reconnaissance and surveillance. Following his time in the Army, Heath pursued higher education at the University of Michigan. During his third year, he was deployed to Iraq, continuing his studies from afar and ultimately earning a Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology and Histology. He later completed Michigan State University's accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and worked as a critical care travel nurse for two years, providing compassionate care to patients across the country. Never one to stop pushing forward, Heath attended Keiser University, where he earned his Master of Science degree and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in June 2018.

Heath was, in every sense, a "run to the fire" kind of person. In 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered his skills in New York at Presbyterian Hospital, working tirelessly as an intensivist on the front lines. His compassion extended far beyond the hospital walls - he was known to leave bottles of water and food on the street for strangers in need, often saying that every person was someone's loved one. His kindness was quiet, genuine, and constant.

Heath believed deeply that the dash between the dates of our lives was what truly mattered, and he lived an extraordinary dash. An adventurer at heart, he traveled extensively around the world, forming lasting friendships wherever he went. Only two continents remained on his travel list. In January 2023, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by hiking Mount Kilimanjaro - just months before being diagnosed with stage four cancer in September 2023. Even in the face of illness, he continued to inspire those around him with his strength, humor, and resilience. Heath loved being in nature and found joy in adventure and exploration. He was a passionate fan of Detroit Lions football and Michigan State athletics. Those who knew Heath will forever remember his warmth and generosity, and especially his unforgettable hugs. A proud hugger, Heath believed a real hug was meant to be felt - strong, genuine, and lasting - a trait lovingly passed down from his papa and his mom. Above all, Heath was a wonderful son, brother, friend, dedicated coworker, and loyal presence in the lives of others. He lived with an open heart, always ready to help, encourage, and stand beside others in times of need.

Heath is survived by his loving parents, George and Melanie Tolliver; many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends across the world who will forever carry his memory with them. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Weston Tolliver in 2021, whom he missed deeply, along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished military brothers.

Heath's life was defined not by the years he was given, but by the courage, compassion, and love he poured into every moment. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, the kindness he shared, and the extraordinary dash he lived so fully.

Funeral services will be held at 12PM Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Mt. Morris Church of Christ - 1262 South St., in Mt. Morris. I will never forget Heath´s kindness. When I was newly hired into Genesys, I was required to float to MICU. Not my home unit and I was a new ICU nurse.

They gave me a terrible assignment. A person that was actively being violent. I had found out I was newly pregnant just 6 weeks along. I think he could see the terror in my eyes. He came to me as a stranger and said, switch me assignments. I told him, with tears in my eyes that I was so thankful and that I just found out I was pregnant and I wasn´t telling people yet.

I was so scared in that moment and he just handled it. After that I worked with him many times in the ICU´s and then in the Cath lab when he was a CRNA.

I always followed his travel journeys and later his health struggles. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Love, comfort and prayers to his beautiful family and those who were lucky enough to know him
