Heather Dawn Amstutz was born July 13, 1977, and passed away on February 14, 2026 - a day that reflects exactly who she was: love.
Heather was engaged to James Gibbs, and she loved him with her whole heart. In truth, that's how Heather did everything wholeheartedly. Heather was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had a Bachelor's Degree in Child Psychology. She had the biggest heart of anyone you could meet. If you needed a place to land, she was it. If you needed someone to listen, she was already there. Heather didn't just love people - she took care of them.
Heather was beautiful, full of life, and carried a light that made people feel safe and special. She loved to laugh and had a gift for making others feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone she had just met, you walked away better for knowing her.
Heather's world revolved around those she loved - including her cherished fur babies, Merida and Maria, who were never "just cats." They were her girls, her comfort, and her constant companions.
She was preceded in death by her beloved fur babies Precious and Fiona, who we are certain greeted her first. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Leroy and Jean Amstutz, John Smith, James Sampson, and Al Ramirez as well as her father, Robert Amstutz his wife, Bree Amstutz.
She leaves behind the love of her life, James Gibbs; her mother and her husband, Sherie and Ed Southern; her grandmother, Glenda Ramirez; and her brothers and sisters, Rocky Amstutz, Amanda (Eric) Prine, Eddie (Katina) Southern, Andrew (fiancée Amanda Hoyum) Southern, Chastedy (John) Abney, Sandra (Sandy) Hernandez, Jacquelin Smith, Kristin (Gary) Bretney, and Lindzy Keeling. She was a proud and loving aunt to 35 nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews - each of them held a special place in her heart.
Heather was a child of God. Her faith carried her, and now she rests in His arms. Though our hearts are broken, we find peace knowing she is whole, surrounded by love, and free.
Heather's life was not measured in years, but in the countless lives she touched. Her love was loud, her care was constant, and her presence was unforgettable. She will forever be the one who showed up, who gave more than she had, and who loved without limits.
And that love will never leave us.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Heather on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the American Legion Post 302, 201 South Street in Darlington from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 3:00 PM. A dinner will follow the service. Sanders Funeral Care is entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.SandersFuneralCare.com.
