Heather Brusso Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Strickland & Family Cremations & Funeral Services on May 17, 2025.
Dr. Heather Ann Brusso, 47, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025. Born on May 25, 1977, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Heather's passion for education and her unwavering commitment to learning touched countless lives.
Heather's academic achievements were exceptional. She earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Regent University, a certificate in Educational Leadership and Management from Harvard University, and both Ed.S. and Master's degrees in education from Old Dominion University, where she also earned her Bachelor's degree.
Her career in education spanned a range of roles, including kindergarten through 4th-grade teacher, assistant principal, and ultimately principal. In each position, Heather brought dedication, heart, and a deep sense of purpose to her work.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Heather was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Brusso Jr., and their son, Justin Brusso, who was the light of her life. Left to cherish her memory are her parents Susan Mireles and Erik Klein, and her father, Greg McElroy. She is also survived by her siblings: Jennifer Giannone and her husband Mark, Kevin McElroy and his wife Morgan, Megan McKinney, and Kurt Klein. Heather leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews who will miss her dearly.
Heather will be remembered not only by her loving family but also by her many close friends, countless former students, and fellow educators whose lives were immeasurably enriched by her vibrant energy, generous spirit, and love for education.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Heather's honor, continuing her legacy of giving children the best life possible.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 1 to 3 pm at Liberty Live Church – Greenbrier.
Please wear bright colors to help us celebrate a life filled with joy and love.
