Beloved Mother, Musician, and Teacher
Bountiful, Utah 1934-2025

Heather Fowles, 91, a woman of remarkable strength, humor, and musical brilliance, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, faith, and melody. For those who knew her, Heather was nothing short of unforgettable—a gifted musician, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and, in every sense, the Queen. And, as her family often joked, no one dared oppose the Queen.

Heather Thurman Fowles was born on September 20, 1934 in Washington DC to William Taft and Zettella Wheeler Thurman. She spent her childhood in Virginia, until her family moved to Salt Lake City when Heather was 13. She graduated from Granite High School and attended BYU for two years. She completed her degree in Elementary Education at the University of Utah where she met her future husband, Don. She married Don Fowles on June 11,1956 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with twin boys, Carl and Curtis, who were born and died on June 24,1957. Heather taught Kindergarten, first, second, and third grade at various elementary schools in Bountiful, Utah, until the family was complete with three children. She and Don were avid Ute fans, and she loved watching the Utah Jazz basketball games.

Music was her life’s blood. A masterful organist, choir director, and inspired teacher, she taught hundreds of children to play the piano, nurturing their confidence and helping them to discover the joy of music. She played the organ for countless funerals of family members and friends, offering comfort through her music during life's most tender moments. Her talent was recognized throughout the Salt Lake City area, where she accompanied professional singers and lent her artistry to many community events.

Heather was widowed for nearly 30 years, and during that time she showed unwavering resilience, grace, and independence. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she carried a strong and steady testimony of the gospel. Her faith guided her, sustained her, and shaped the way she loved and served others.

Heather was funny, feisty, and full of personality, quick with a witty remark, unafraid to speak her mind, and always ready to laugh. Her presence filled every room, and her music filled countless hearts. If you knew Heather, you knew that her favorite word was, “Done!” We expect she will hear her favorite word again, “Well done thou good and faithful servant. Well done.”

Heather is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Larry) Anderson and Allison Martinez, son, Mark (Katherine) Fowles, as well as ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sister, Margo-Lynn Richards, and brother, Bill (Sue) Thurman. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, twin sons, her sister, Roberta Dempsey, and many other extended family members.

In addition to her family, she leaves behind friends who will forever cherish her memory. Her influence lives on in every student she taught, every life she touched, and every note of music that continues because of her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Canyon Park Ward, 1190 E. Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah 84010 with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 am. Interment will follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
