Heather Louise Buell Vail, 83, of Bordentown, NJ passed away on March 28, 2023.
She was predeceased by sons Samuel Wallace Vail Jr. and Gage Hughes Vail, sister-in-law Laurine Casey and nephew Wallace Morgan, mother-in-law Laurine Wallace Vail of Nashville, TN and father-in-law Samuel E. Vail of Binghamton, NY.
She was survived by her husband of 63 years, Samuel Wallace Vail Sr., daughter Dr. Nancy Vail-Archer, and beloved twin sister Nancy Law of Beaufort, South Carolina, daughter-in-law Tanya Silva Vail, sisters-in-law Margaret Vail and Sandra McCaffrey, nieces, Heather Metje, Laurine King, Vail Gates, and nephews Campbell Metcalfe, Debow Casey, Bronson Casey, Compton Casey, Christian Casey, and Pier Morgan.
She was the loving grandmother of Julia Helene Vail, Louis William Archer, and Samantha June Archer.
Heather was born in Vancouver, Canada to parents Dr. Arthur Louis Buell of Marietta, OH and Helen Buell of Vincent, OK. Heather graduated from the University of Oklahoma. After her marriage in 1962 she and her husband moved to NYC and later Dobbs Ferry, NY. While in NYC she worked in the clothing industry. After moving to Bordentown, she was employed by the State of New Jersey as the Director of Recreation and Volunteer Services of Johnstone Developmental Center and New Lisbon Developmental Center. In early years, she traveled to Europe, North Africa, and later Germany and frequently parts of the Caribbean. Heather was a creative, talented, multi-faceted, and fun-loving lady. She was an artist, a designer of jewelry, an accomplished pianist, and an avid gardener. She could lose herself for hours in a good book, she enjoyed tennis and often joined family ski trips. Heather enjoyed cooking and loved to entertain family and friends at seated dinner parties and decorate for the holidays. She frequently volunteered for several charity organizations including Meals on Wheels. You could find her shopping for clothes, jewelry, and antiques. She enjoyed the sounds of Bill Haley, Elvis, Susan Boyle, Josh Groban, and Andrea Bocelli and she was a terrific dancer. Above all she loved her children, grandchildren, and her many pets. In retirement she and Sam navigated the intracoastal waterways in their boat to the Florida Keys frequently accompanied by various friends. She and Sam settled in Beaufort, SC in 2009 before returning to Bordentown in 2021. In later life, despite increasing blindness she maintained high spirits.
Her best friends were always her twin sister and daughter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her feisty, funny, and good sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held at the family's home on June 3rd, 2023.
