Heather VanCleave Obituary
June 11, 1990 - July 18, 2025
Heather Ashley VanCleave (35) passed away peacefully at home, in Lincoln, Neb., on July 18, 2025, surrounded by family. Heather faced a lifetime of profound medical challenges and severe disabilities, including being nonverbal. Yet, her life was anything but silent. Through every struggle, Heather expressed her love and resilience in her own unmistakable ways. Through her gaze, her smile, and her infectious laughter.
Heather taught those around her the true meaning of unconditional love, patience, perseverance, and courage. Despite the limitations placed on her, Heather had an impact on the many lives she came in contact with family, caregivers, doctors, nurses, teachers, aides, and friends, who were all enriched by knowing her.
Heather is survived by her parents, Kenneth and Patricia VanCleave; siblings, half brother, Kevin (Annemarie) VanCleave; half sisters, Julie Missino and Jennifer Sapp; uncle, William (Patricia) Ferche; and aunt, Patricia (Robert) Strube; along with many cousins.
A celebration of life gathering for Heather will be held on August 10, 2025, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Lincoln East High School's Special Education Department, Heather's most cherished life experience.
Heather will be missed beyond words, remembered always, and loved forever.

I did not know Heather, but I have a daughter with disabilities as well. I was so touched by your words about how she had such a profound impact on all that met her. I love that through all her challenges, she still had so much to give. Your daughter was very lucky to have such a loving family. It sounds like she had an amazing life because of your love and support. I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. God bless you all and your beautiful guardian angel.

Just wanted to extend our deepest sympathy on learning about Heather. I have fond memories of knowing Heather in her younger years and the girls enjoyed babysitting Heather.......
