Hector Augustin Riquelme Jr.

Hector Augustin Riquelme Jr, age 71, passed away on March 29,2026 at his home, leaving behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity, a deep love for his family, and a lifelong devotion to his favorite teams.

Born in 1954, Hector was a man who valued the power of words. He took immense pride in being articulate and well-versed in a vast array of subjects; whether discussing history, mathematics, science, or the arts, he was a lifelong student of the world. His appreciation for life was often set to a soundtrack, as he found joy in all genres of music, finding beauty in everything from the complex to the simple.

In 1983, Hector married the love of his life, Tammy. Together, they built a life defined by partnership and patience for 40 years until her passing in 2023. While his heart bore the weight of her absence over the past few years, his family takes comfort in the thought of their reunion.

A passionate sports fan, Hector could often be found cheering on the Atlanta Braves or the UNC Tar Heels. His loyalty to his teams was a constant thread throughout his life, providing a backdrop for many spirited conversations and shared memories with friends and family.

Above all, Hector was a family man. He is survived by his three children, Adina Marie Olds (Jon) of Jacksonville, Amanda Maria Walker (John) of Clayton, and Dale Augustin Ginger-Riquelme (Devon) of Garner., who carry forward his respect for knowledge and his sharp wit. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tammy Sue Ginger-Riquelme, and his parents, Hector Augustin Riquelme, Sr. and Gloria Maria Resto Riquelme.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
