Hector Rodriguez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 25, 2026.
Hector Manuel Rodriguez, 98, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at Roberts Care Center in Palatka.

Born and raised in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Hector was the beloved son of the late Jose and Victoria Rodriguez. From a young age, he developed a deep love for baseball. In high school, he played in the Double A division, and the sport remained his lifelong passion. He later shared his knowledge and love of the game by coaching others, leaving a lasting impact on the players he mentored.

Hector proudly served his country in the United States Army for four years, with assignments in Germany and Panama. After completing his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with the Puerto Rican Telephone Company, where through hard work and determination, he rose through the ranks, retiring after 35 years as a director.

In 1974, Hector met the love of his life, Elba. They were married in 1977 and built a life grounded in devotion, partnership, and quiet strength.

A man of simple tastes and steady character, Hector found joy in gardening and took great pride in planting and tending fruit trees. He was also an avid sports fan who faithfully followed his favorite teams. Though he was a man of few words, Hector had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his witty remarks and memorable sayings that brought smiles to those around him.

Hector will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his love of baseball, and the quiet, steady presence he brought to every room. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his service, mentorship, and love.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elba Rodriguez; children, Hector Ivan Rodriguez (Sandra), Marvin Rodriguez (Migmarie), Gerson Rodriguez (Jamie); grandchildren, Damian, Danella, Mateo, Lola and Rosalia. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jose "Pepe" Rodriguez and brothers, Jose, Luis and Rafael Rodriguez.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with interment to follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30pm. A visitation will precede the service from 11-12.
