Heidi Lynn Herrig was born on July 13, 1967, the daughter of Merlin “Sam” and Joan Lauretta (Tech) Herrig in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, where she remained a lifelong member. She graduated from Denison High School with the Class of 1985 and went on to complete her education at Stewart’s Hair School in Council Bluffs.
After finishing school, Heidi returned to Denison and began her career at Dorothy’s Hair Styling. She later worked at Casey’s General Store for many years, and most recently, was employed at Walmart for over 19 years.
A devoted member of the church community, Heidi, served as both a Sunday School teacher and a Girl Scout leader. She loved her family deeply and was a constant, caring presence in their lives. Known affectionately as a second mom to her nieces and nephews, Heidi took great joy in organizing family gatherings, thoughtfully planning each one and preparing the meals. Heidi was a woman filled with love and kindness. Nothing meant more to her than being part of her family’s lives. She cherished traveling and going on trips, often with her nieces and nephews. She also took trips with her sisters, and her favorite places were Tennessee and Arizona, where she fulfilled her dream of seeing the Grand Canyon.
Heidi passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 58 years and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; and brother-in-law, Allen Namanny.
She is survived by her siblings: Becky (Hobert) Rogers of Denison, Holly Namanny (Victor) of Denison, Larry (Michelle) Herrig of Denison, Gary (Shelly) Herrig of Denison, and Jodie (Alejandro) Vazquez of Denison; 14 nephews and nieces: Brent (Rachel), Brandon (Tisha), Bryan (Nikkie), Derek (Jen), Brooke (Spencer), Ashlyn, Lauren, Tessa (Ben), Tori, Taya, Austin, Samantha, Lexi (Jordan) and Melody; many great-nephews and nieces; her misunderstood cat, Jax; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. Memorials may be directed to the family.
