Heidi Marie Kaufhold, 63, passed peacefully surrounded by family in the home she grew up in on July 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Heidi was born June 17, 1962, in Nashua, NH, to Hans and Roberta Kaufhold, along with her twin sister, Valli, who joined her an hour and a half later. Together, they were the youngest of the six Kaufhold children.
She grew up in Peterborough, NH, and graduated in 1980 from ConVal High School. She traveled extensively with her family. In high school she traveled to Mexico with her sister Valli, and later they drove to Nova Scotia with their brother Tom and Grampa Mutti. The entire family took a trip to Germany, seeing where their father Hans grew up, and Heidi drove across the U.S. with her brother Tom and their grandfather.
In healthier times, Heidi was an avid hiker and was a frequent climber up Mount Monadnock. In 1991, she was recognized with a plaque from the state park for climbing it every day for one year. Heidi was a hard worker and was never without a job. She spent 17 years running the office at the family business, Peterborough Marble & Granite Works. She also had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dogs and cats, and she rarely missed a Patriots game - Tom Brady was her favorite. She enjoyed a good crossword puzzle, and a creative side that came through in her painting and drawing.
In recent years, Heidi found joy in spoiling her granddaughter. Creating boxes of goodies to be mailed to Maine, filled with all sorts of fun. Mostly second hand treasures she found, books, and lovely hand-me-down family items. Always accompanied by a card filled with love from Grammie. Heidi carried a strong sense of independence and humor into everything she did. She was a problem solver with a sharp wit, and was always quick to say it like it is. She gave generously of her time and money for the benefit of others, wanting to help others before she helped herself. Heidi was always thinking of others, quick to call you with a movie recommendation, a gift idea, or something that made her think of you. She fought hard and stubbornly until the very end. The Kaufhold family will forever miss their "Tilly."
Heidi is predeceased by her parents, Hans and Roberta, who both passed in 2021, and her sister Erika Fiske, who passed in 2009.
Heidi is survived by her children, Bruce Perry and Melissa Kesti, her son-in-law Chad Creighton, her beloved granddaughter Eila, and her siblings, John, Peter, Tom Kaufhold, Valli Hannings, their loving spouses, and 11 nieces and nephews.
Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice at HCS, 9 Vose Farm Road, Suite 110, Peterborough, NH, 03458. Thank you Nancy for honoring our family with your love and compassion for Hans, Roberta and now Heidi! And a special thanks to Ellen Gagnon, a friend to the end.
A private family burial will happen this summer.
