Helen Joe Anne Claborn, a guiding light of passion and wisdom passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. Born September 11, 1935, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Joe Anne's journey through life was marked by her compassion, intellect and dedication to her family and career.
Joe, daughter to the late Rufus Clifford Rivers and Lurline Arthur, was raised in a caring and nurturing home that shaped her life and future. She was the loving sister of Bettye Rivers Caproni and Albert Caproni, Jr., Rufus Ridley Rivers and wife Barbara Rivers, all of whom predeceased her. She was the mother of two sons, Franklin R. Hingle and Grant Whitney Hingle along with his wife Wanda, who loved her dearly. She was a grandmother, her grandson Justin Whitney Hingle and wife Clarissa Hingle always gave her a great sense of pride. Her family legacy continues to grow through her great-grandchildren Lily Anne Hingle and Stone Waylon Hingle who she adored greatly. While family filled her life, she was touched by the loss of her daughter-in-law Renee Hingle, great-grandson Landin Whitney Hingle and other cherished nieces and nephews. After graduating from nursing school Joe began her career as a registered nurse in the emergency room at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX where she served with conviction and distinction. Her path of knowledge and education led her to earn a Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, punctuating her commitment to higher learning and the nursing profession. Her expertise and leadership skills were further utilized at Cobb Memorial Hospital in
Phenix City, Alabama, where she not only taught nursing but also excelled in administrative roles, specializing in emergency management and infectious disease control. Joe's relentless drive and passion for her work were evident as she continued her service until the age of 79, leaving an indelible mark on Columbus Regional and the broader medical community.
Joe's passions were not limited, she was an avid reader and consumed countless books. She enjoyed needle point, knitting and sewing. She enjoyed watching football, specifically the Dallas Cowboys. Above all she had a great love for animals. Her cat Trumper was a steadfast companion throughout the years
A masterful cook, Joe's pinto beans and rice, fried potatoes, black eyed peas and pepper gravy, and an array of Mexican and Cajun dishes were legendary among family and friends. Her culinary talents were a testament to her love for life and her ability to transform simple ingredients into meals that warmed the heart.
Joe's love for her country was easily found in her passion for politics. She was always willing to engage in thought-provoking conversations or debate. Well informed domestically and abroad, she was dedicated to her civic responsibilities.
As we remember Helen Joe Anne Claborn, we celebrate an extraordinary life lived. Her intelligence lit the way for many to follow, and her passionate heart left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her. Joe's life was a tapestry of love, learning, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others, and her memory will continue to inspire generations to come.
A celebration of life will be announced later to honor Joe's life, allowing those closest to her to reflect on the joy and laughter she brought into their world.
