Helen Aquila Obituary
Helen A. Aquila (nee McMahon), age 88, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024. She was born on November 23, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Helen attended Collinwood High School, Ohio University, and Fenn College. Ultimately, she achieved her dream of graduating the nursing program at Lakeland Community College. She proudly kept her nursing license active until she was 84 years old. Helen was famous for her love of animals, ingenious craft ideas, "sketti" and meatballs, and her homemade Italian dressing. Most of all, Helen was very proud of her family.
She was the loving mother of Paul (Patricia), Patrick (Jacqueline), Salvatore Sr., Brian (Monica), Kenneth (Connie), and Frank Greenwood; cherished grandmother of Philip, Miriam, Emily (Colton), Michael, Danielle, George (Lindsay), Sam, Salvatore Jr. (Kathryn), Alexander, Clarice, Kara, Kyle, and Corinne; and great-grandmother of Wyatt, Kate, Eli, June, Penny, Blake, Max, Kain, Rin, Salvatore III, Heidi, and Hailey.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sam; her parents, Patrick and Isabella (nee Gilmour) McMahon; and sister, Patricia (Gerald) Hill.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Rd., Kirtland, OH 44094. Fr. David Woost will officiate. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Rd., Mentor, OH 44060.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
