INLET – Helen Rider Avery, age 97, formerly of Cedar Lake Road, Clayville and 4th Lake, Inlet, passed away, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, in St. George, Utah, with her daughter, Linda by her side.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1928, in Ilion, the daughter of Charles Ellis Latt, and Maude (Jones) Latt, and graduated from Ilion High School, in 1947. Helen married Robert Rider, in 1949, at the Annunciation Church, in Ilion. He died in 1984. She later married Charles Avery, in 2011. He died in 2012. Helen grew up working on her Family Farm. She later worked as a Cashier at Loblaws, in Ilion. Most recently she worked with her husband, operating the Rider Family Farm, in Clayville. Helen had been a Leader in 4-H for many years and was a former member of the Annunciation Church. She enjoyed doing puzzles.
Surviving family members include her 2 daughters, Linda Rider, of Central, Utah, and Nancy Burke and her husband, Daniel, of West Winfield; her 2 sons, Richard Rider, of Northville, NY, and Paul Rider and his wife, Nancy, of Foley, Alabama; her step-son, Peter Avery, of Albany; her 5 grandchildren, Melissa and her husband, Vic, Gregory, Samuel, Rebecca and Timothy; her 5 great grandchildren, Daniel, Brendan, Dillon, Karlton and Zachary; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands, Robert Rider and Charles Avery; her 2 sisters, Cecilia Latt, and Margaret (Paul) Urtz; her 2 brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Latt, and Fred (Cathy) Latt.
Visitation will be held on Sat. Nov. 29, 2025. from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00, p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location, at 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (Town of Frankfort). Funeral Service will be held after Visitation, at 2:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home, with Deacon Jim Bower officiating. Burial will be held in May 2026, at the Cedar Lake Cemetery.
