Helen Alexander Basco was born in Coushatta, LA on February 3, 1931, to the union of her parents, Ira Cleveland Alexander and Thelma Mae Carr Alexander, and she passed from this life to her heavenly home September 24, 2025 in Columbia, LA. Helen spent most of her life serving her community of Caldwell Parish in various ways. She taught school for over 25 years before her retirement but her love for teaching and working with young people did not stop there. She volunteered at the Martin Home Place teaching the visiting children about the unique traditions of folklife in North Louisiana. She served as a Cub Scout sponsor when her sons were young and was always involved in and supported their many activities as they grew. Helen loved her church, Grayson Baptist Church, and served in the children's ministry there as well. She taught Sunday School and worked in Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Society, which promoted excellence in education. Even with all these accomplishments her greatest accomplishment was her family. She loved and nurtured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Leon Basco; her son, Nathan Basco; brother, Richard "Dickie" Alexander; and great-granddaughter, Makaylee Denise Burnham.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Stephen Basco (Cindy) and Bro. Tommy Basco (Sharon); sister, Betty Bates; daughter in law, Tracy Basco grandchildren: Amanda Allbritton (Craig), Melissa Gardner (Jason), Stephanie Sullivan (Shane), Lance Leihr (Robin), Jessica Basco, Nathan Basco (Jania), and Alex Basco; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
