Helen Eileen Buttron passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Vintage Park in Atchison, KS surrounded by family at 78 years old.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, Sept. 24th, 2023, at the Becker Chapel, 402 3rd St, Effingham, KS with burial of cremated remains to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Effingham, KS. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm on Sunday until time of services at the Becker Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Effingham Union Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.
She was born October 3, 1944, to the late Jack and Theresa (Meador) Taliaferro, Effingham, KS. She leaves three sons, Karl LeWayne (Brenda), Lancaster, KS, James Edwin Jr., Olathe, KS and Rex Stanley, Lancaster, KS, six granddaughters, one grandson and 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She also leaves a brother, Richard (Gerri) Taliaferro, Effingham, KS and two sisters, Mary Ann (Mark) Bergmann, Des Moines, Iowa and Marsha Collins, Valley Center, KS, a Sister-in-law Gail Taliaferro and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Theresa Taliaferro, a brother Jerry Taliaferro, a brother-in-law Jack Collins and great-granddaughter Josie Stuart and daughter-in-law Brenda Vorbeck.
Eileen, a proud 1962 graduate of Atchison County Community High School, was a dedicated member of her community during her time in Atchison County. She served as a member of the Star Homemakers Unit, holding multiple offices and making significant contributions. Eileen also lent her expertise to the Atchison County Home Economics Advisory Board and assumed the role of a project leader for both the Friendly Farmers and Lancaster Lightening 4-H clubs. Her commitment to the community involvement extended to her role as a charter member of the Atchison County Young Farm Wives organization. Eileen's devotion to community service earned her recognition, including the Outstanding Alumni 4-H award in 1971 and the Globe Outstanding Award.
She was an active member of the Union Church and the Union Church Ladies Society before moving to Mission, KS. Eileen also had a deep appreciation for outdoor activities, finding joy in canoeing and volksmarching. She was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church, the Heart of American Volksmarching Club, and the Kansas City Outdoor Club
Eileen was employed at the University of Kansas Medical Center in the Office of Continuing Education and Department of Pediatrics, in the Division of Neonatology since 1983. After retirement in 2011, she enjoyed traveling, her domino group, playing bunco, spending time with friends and attending her grandchildren's activities. In 2020, she moved back to Lancaster to be closer to family. All her great-grandchildren became her pride and joy.
