Helen Louise Cox, age 99, of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away on March 24, 2026, at The Veranda. She was born on January 16, 1927, to Erastus Alexander and Mary Anna Northrup Powell.
A resident of this area most of her life. Helen worked for many years as an LPN at Rhea County Hospital. She was a faithful member of Garrison Baptist Church. She enjoyed painting and was proud to be a member of the Dayton Arts League. Above all, she loved the Lord. Helen was truly blessed with many long years, and her life was a testimony of faith, devotion, and quiet grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Athel Lee Frederick and Hugh Cox; her brothers, Joseph Franklin Powell, Grady Harris Powell, Carl Lewis Powell, Charles Luther Powell, Howard Grant Powell, Slymon John Powell; and her sisters, Myrtle Lucille Powell and Sibyl Irene Powell.
She is survived by her son, Ronald (Melba) Frederick; her grandchildren, Athel Frederick and Kelci (Jay) Slagle; her great-granddaughters, Lily Slagle and Lucy Slagle; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Breeden, who is officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow after the Sunday funeral service. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Helen's name to Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes. You can visit and make donations at www.tennesseechildren.org.
