Helen Anita Daugherty, age 90, of Eastlake, Ohio, died September 15, 2023 at 2:22 p.m., at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby, Ohio.
She was the wife of Richard Alan Long who preceded her in death on May 11, 1990, and Dave Willis Daugherty, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1988.
Helen Daugherty was born September 25, 1932 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the daughter of the late Lonnie Edward Deaner and Mary Margaret Persinger. She is survived by a sister, Wilma Bonnie Utley of East Peoria, Illinois and her children, Gary Alan Long (wife Marilyn) and his children Trever Long and Natalie Long and grandchildren, Rylen Whitaker, Joseph Whitaker, Lief Whitaker, Merri Lee, Shannon, Spencer and Massie; Keith Wayne Long (wife Wendy) and his children Taylor Cates, Ryan Long, Brianna King and grandchildren Gwen Cates, Kacey Cates, Addilyn King, Cooper King and Azalea King; and Laurie Louise Hurm (husband David) and her children John W. Elgin IV, Lea Mishevski, Toby Elgin and grandchild, Naomi Mishevski.
At age 16, Helen worked as a cosmetologist in Eastlake, Ohio and then moved to Zanesville, Ohio in 1968. She had raised her three children and supported them with her beauty shop in her home and did well there. She enjoyed life and wanted her children to enjoy life. She let us drive her Grand Prix down the country roads. We will never forget enjoying ice cream stops along the way and jitterbug dancing in the dirt roads.
Helen was an ever-present member in all family gatherings, was active in her church, Victory Baptist in Mentor, and then at Mentor Baptist Church, where she made many friends.
She loved Jesus and she loved her family. She was active in choir until she was no longer able to attend.
Graveside Service Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens. Please meet at the front gate.
