Helen C. Harris, age 94, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at The Inn at Northwood Village in Dover, following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on December 22, 1930, Helen was the daughter of the late Gus and Mary (Aleferis) Lambros. She graduated from Dover High School in 1948 and began her professional journey with New Philadelphia Schools. Starting as an assistant to the superintendent, she steadily advanced in her career and ultimately served many years as the district's treasurer. Helen took great pride in managing the school’s finances with integrity and always sought opportunities to improve its financial stability.
On June 25, 1950, Helen married Robert E. Harris, a graduate of New Philadelphia High School. The couple made their home in Pleasant Valley, where Bob helped build their first house.
Helen and Bob were devoted members of First United Methodist Church, where Helen remained actively involved throughout her life. They enjoyed traveling together and cherished their time as companions, always embracing the joy of each other’s company.
Helen is survived by her two sons, James (Angie) Harris of Coshocton and Robert J. (Amy) Harris of Sugarcreek; grandchildren, Drs. Kristen (Jeff) Longman of Wilmington, North Carolina, Traci (Ryan) Moreland and Lauren (Tyler) Ellwood, both of Apollo Beach, Florida, Erika (CJ) Metzger of New Philadelphia and Erin (Mike) Leonardi of Jackson Twp.; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Kaylee, and Mio Longman, Alexis and Mackenzie Ellwood, and Elanor and Ethan Metzger; and her sister, Sophia Elliott.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in passing by her husband of 59 years, Bob; and her siblings, Harry, Tommy, Johnny, and Christine.
Memorial visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 10:30 to 12 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by inurnment in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
