LIFE REFLECTIONS
God has called one of his spiritual angels to heaven, Helen Joyce (Kaufman) Humphrey. She departed this life Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11:44 a.m. in Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Illinois. A cherished soul who touched the lives of many, Helen was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to the loving union of Burdett and Florine Mitchell Kaufman. She was the second of five children born to this union.
Throughout her life, Helen's unwavering faith and deep love for Christ guided her path. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized with the Holy Spirit. Her devotion to the scriptures was evident as she followed them diligently every day. She found solace and joy in her membership with the Methodist Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Illinois, and later with the Community Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas. She was honored as Mother of Original House Prayer To All Nations in Alton, Illinois. Helen was a devoted and loving Christian mother, instilling strong Christian values in her children. She found joy in the simple things, like listening to gospel music, going shopping, watching heartfelt stories on television, and cooking.
Preceding her in death were: her beloved parents, Burdett and Florine Mitchell Kaufman; her sister, Ann Stern; her brothers, Billy James Kaufman and Henry Leon Kaufman; her two children, Byron Harold and Paulette (Harold) Dixon, from her union with Earl F. Harold Sr.; adopted son, Bizer Quinn; her granddaughter, Jasmine Floyd; and her great-grandson, Khler Appleton. Her second marriage was to Henry Howell, and her third marriage was to Leroy Humphrey.
Helen's memory will forever be cherished by her surviving family: her son, Earl F. Harold Jr. of El Paso, TX; her daughter, Latasha Howell of Granite City, IL; her sister, Flora Jean Quinn of Milwaukee, WI; and her sister-in-law, Levora Kaufman of St. Louis, MO. Helen's presence will be deeply missed by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also held a special place in her heart for her dear friend, Ms. Beverly Gorens.
As we bid farewell to Helen Joyce (Kaufman) Humphrey, we are eternally grateful for the time we were blessed to have her in our lives. Though her physical presence may be gone, her spirit and love will forever reside in our hearts. May she find eternal peace in the embrace.
