Helen Kash

Helen Lorraine Kash, 79, of Bonnie, Illinois, went to meet her Lord and Savior at 8:59 p.m. on December 18, 2025, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born July 24, 1946, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, to the late Cullie Louis Jones and Eleanor Lorraine (Fuller) Jones Mickelson. Helen married Kenneth Dale "Kenny" Kash on December 15, 1962. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 10, 2022.
Helen was a devoted and loving soul whose gentle heart touched everyone around her. Family was the center of her life, and she treasured every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was especially known for her baking-her pies were legendary-and the meals she lovingly prepared created countless happy memories for family and friends.
Helen and Kenny joyfully operated the Bonnie Café for many years, sharing her cooking with hundreds of patrons. Later, she served as office manager for Kenny's Trash Services, enjoying working side by side with her husband in every endeavor. A faithful member of Bonnie Missionary Baptist Church, Helen's warmth, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Shelton and husband David, and Penny Kash; grandchildren, Jonathon Shelton, Bethany Webb, Nicole Mischke and husband Hank, and Chelsey Watson and husband Bryan; great-grandchildren, Liam Bradford, Colin Bradford, Darcy Bradford, Jordan Mischke, Hazel Mischke, and Eliza Watson; and by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jackie and Audrey Kash, Jimmy and Glenda Downen, and Noma Lee Kash, Phyllis Kash, Wayne Kash, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Cook and husband Donald; siblings-in-law, Floyd Kash, Virgil Kash, Jr., Billy Kash, Bobby Kash, JoAnn Pierce, Norma Kash, Beatrice Kash, Darlene "Smokey" Kash, and Brenda Kash; and nephews, Danny Kash, Paul Kash, Robert Dale Kash, and Terry Kash.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., with Reverend Jim Beaty officiating. Interment will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Helen's honor to Kirk Cemetery.
