Helen Mae Lawson
January 9, 1938 - December 5, 2024
Helen Mae Lawson, the most precious wife, mother, sister, Grandma, and Memaw, passed from
this life on December 5, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born on January 9, 1938, in Yuma,
Arizona, to George Henry and Hassel Mae Melton. Helen was the third of four children born to
the Melton family. She grew up near Yuma in the small farming community of Somerton, where
she attended elementary school and junior high before graduating from Yuma High School in
1957.
While in high school, Helen met and fell in love with airman Ector "Tex" Lawson. They were
married on October 5, 1957, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and shared 65 years of love and
companionship before Tex's passing in 2022. Together, they had two children, Gary and Tina.
In 1963, Helen and Tex became longtime residents of Altus, Oklahoma, where they built their
life and raised their family.
Helen was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished grandmother. As a homemaker, she
delighted in cooking delicious meals and baking treats for her family. She briefly worked outside
the home at Altus Fabrics while Tex was stationed overseas. Known for her kind and sunny
disposition, Helen never spoke a harsh word about anyone. Her soft heart and love for animals
were evident to all who knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tex; her son, Gary D. Lawson; both of
her parents; a brother, Culey Melton; and a sister, Bonnie Peacock.
She is survived by her daughter Tina Bevers and husband Stan of Vernon, Texas; her sister,
Mary Sue Hively of Yuma, Arizona; her granddaughters Dana Bevers of Vernon, TX, Jana
Ramirez and husband Jonathan of Portland, TX, and Jessica Rosenblad and husband Michael
of Muleshoe, TX; her grandson, Dustin Lawson of Farwell, TX; and her four great-grandchildren:
Michael and Kaitlyn Rosenblad, and Natalie and Nathan Ramirez.
Helen's gentle spirit, love for her family, and unwavering kindness will forever remain in the
hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services are pending.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your local humane society in Helen's honor.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
