1930–2023
Helen Palmer Mackelprang, 93, left her earthly life on May 6, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on April 6, 1930, in Alton, Utah, and was a proud, long-time resident of the Henderson/Las Vegas area. She lived a life full of dedication and service to her family, friends, church, and community. No stranger to hard work, Helen was a practicing nurse until the age of 83, and then continued selflessly taking care of her husband, William, until the day she went into the hospital. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 85 years. Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and enduring until the end were themes that resonated throughout her life. She was a talented self taught piano player and had a love for all things purple. She was honest, she was kind, and she was loved by all who had the blessing of knowing her in this life.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Melba Palmer; her son Brian J. Mackelprang; brothers Elgin, Charles, and Wendell Palmer; sister Donna Caine, and daughter-in-law Gina Mackelprang. She is survived by her husband, William J. Mackelprang; brothers Robert and Delbert Palmer; daughter, Connie (Rod) Hicken; daughter, Deanna (Timothy) Melton; son, Gary (Jeanetta) Mackelprang; son, Craig (Dawn) Mackelprang; and son, Eric (Sheila) Mackelprang, as well as 22 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Treeline LDS Chapel (2285 Treeline Dr., Las Vegas Nevada 89142) on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m. A private graveside service will take place at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, May 22, at 10:40 a.m.
