Helen Marbs Obituary

Helen Ashby Marbs

Alexandria - Funeral Service for Mrs. Marbs be held on March 2, 2021 at 11:00 am at Winnfield Funeral Home of Alexandria. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until the start of service. Interment will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Alexandria, Louisiana. Helen Ashby Marbs of Alexandria, Louisiana was born on July 3, 1938 to the late Apelonia and Liodes Ashby. Helen was a devoted, caring wife and mother. On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, she peacefully transitioned after a lengthy illness.

Helen was one of the youngest twin daughters born to the Ashby's in Haasville LA. Helen and her family later moved to Alexandria.

At an early age, Helen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a long-time member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Peabody High School Class of 1958. Helen married Charlie Marbs on January 18, 1963. This year they celebrated their 58th year of marriage. To this union, one daughter was born.

Helen served as a dutiful military wife and mother. She travelled with her husband and daughter. They lived in the states of Washington, California, Colorado, and Mississippi before returning to Louisiana.

Helen joined her husband at Oakland Missionary Baptist Church in the early 2000's. There she served as an usher for several years, until her health started to fail. Until her death, Helen was a member in good standing of the Naomi Chapter No. 163, Star of Hope Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

While on her life's journey, Helen enjoyed hobbies such as ceramics, macrame', and bowling. Her baking and cooking skills were highly praised and loved by her family, church members, and friends. Helen's last place of employment was Service Merchandise, formerly located on Memorial Drive. While there, she provided exceptional customer service.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and brother-in-law (Lena E. and Alton Wyatt); three beloved aunts (Berniece "Pee Wee" Bradley, Beatrice Bradley and Josephine Smith); four loved uncles (Henry Bradley, Cephus Bradley, James Bradley, and "Uncle Snook"); two deceased sister-in-law (Rosa Mae Burton and Allie Mae Marbs) and six dear brothers-in-law (James Frederick, Sr., Willie Marbs, Cleveland Marbs, James Marves, Horace Marves, and Hillary Payne).

Helen leaves to cherish her life and memories: her beloved husband, Charlie Marbs; her daughter, Charlene R. Marbs of Arizona; one grandson, Jonathan G. Hill of Arizona; two sisters of Alexandria, Audrey A. Frederick and the one person who knew her before anyone else in the world her twin sister, Ella Ashby; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Soso, Ida Marbs, Sarah H. Marbs; two brothers-in-law, Huey L. Marbs and Eugene H. Marbs; along with two ladies she fondly called daughters, Mary Veal-Brown and Mary Flournoy. She also leaves a host of loved and adored nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and church members. Signature Services provided by Winnfield Funeral Home 318-445-5002.

Mrs. Marbs was a wonderful person who I met and looked up to while working at Service Merchandise. She always gave words of wisdom to me whenever we would talk. She was like another mother to me. A kind hearted, loving person she was. I will never forget her. Rest In Heaven Mrs. Marbs

I'm so sorry for your families loss Mr. Charlie & Charlene. I worked with Helen in Housewares along with Bridgette. We started out when it was Wilson's, then it was turned into Service Merchandise. You & your family are in my prayers.
