Helen Estelle Mitchell, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on April 15, 1931, she was known for her generous spirit, gentle nature, and unwavering kindness. Helen loved her family, and she cherished the simple joys of life, whether it was enjoying donut sticks and coffee, crocheting, or solving crossword puzzles.
She was an avid lover of the outdoors, finding peace in birdwatching. Helen found happiness in cooking, and watching her favorite game shows—Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Family vacations and trips to the beach brought her great joy, and she treasured the memories made with those she loved.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, William D. Mitchell Jr., and siblings G.C. Hart, Buster Hart, Dan Hart, Delbert Hart, Odessa Bowman, Lila Hambrick, Mary Dove, Ruth Smith, Mildred Moore, Doris Hart, and Jessie Hart. She was also preceded by her parents, George and Myrtice Hart.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amanda & Jeff Smallwood, her granddaughter, Kathryn Smallwood, and several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, located at 1215 Access Road, Covington, GA 30014, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery, 521 Jones Street, Gainesville, GA 30501, at 2:00 PM.
Helen's warmth and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
