Helen Mitchell Obituary

Helen Jean "Jeannie" Mitchell transitioned into the arms of Jesus and the glory of heaven on Tuesday August 26, 2025 at 2:30 pm. She had a peaceful passing, with her adoring husband Herbye by her side holding her hand as she took her last breath.

Jeannie was born in Kansas City Missouri on February 17, 1945. She was raised in Southern California with her sister Jerry Ann, parents Myron and Helen Nelson, along with a large extended loving family.

Jeannie was a skilled hairdresser, master stylist and hair color specialist for nearly 6 decades. She owned her own salon "The Jeannie Coiffures" in California for many years prior to moving to Granbury in 2004. Many of her clients were fiercely loyal and would only let Jeannie do their hair.

Outside of her work and career, Jeannie loved to bowl, play pool, played the organ, knitted like a machine and loved traveling. She also loved rock concerts, plays, live musicals and of course Vegas. Jeannie was a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. She loved all her family and was the best friend anyone could have.

She met her husband Herbye in July 1982. They were married on September 22, 1984 and spent the next 41 years deeply in love as husband and wife, partners and best friends forever. To say our hearts are broken is an understatement. All of our lives will never be the same without her.

Jeannie is predeceased by her parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as several lifelong dear friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband Herbye Mitchell, a son, James White (wife Helen), granddaughter Summer White all of Diamond Bar CA. Her sister Jerry Ann Goeytes (husband Jorge) of Cedar Hill TX and sister Dawna Petersen of Chicago. Jeannie is also survived by her Aunt Betty Colegrove, cousins Doris Unruh, Marilyn Wells and the entire Oeding and Conrardy families. Last but not least, her loving basset hound Lucy.

A viewing and cheerful visitation will be held on Saturday, September 6th from 6 to 8 pm in the main chapel at Wiley Funeral Home 400 E. Hwy 377, Granbury, TX 76048.

Burial will be on Tuesday, September 9th at DFW Memorial Cemetery, Dallas. There will be a graveside service for family only.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please donate a little something to North Texas Basset Hound Rescue. Jeannie loved all the basset hounds we had over the years. Please visit their website at www.bassetrescuedfw.org A great organization, they are how Jeannie and Lucy found each other.
