Helen Moreland Obituary
Ms. Moreland was born, June 7, 1943 in Tallulah, Louisiana; the daughter of James and Mattie Nelson Madison. She attended Standing InThe Gap Church in Akron, Ohio, where she served as Mother of the Church. She loved fishing, dancing, and all her grands, great grands and great-great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her passing, but to rejoice in her peace, her children, Blanchie (Melvin) West, Sharon Moreland, Shun Moreland, and Charlotte Moreland all of Youngstown, Thomas J. (Tanya) Moreland, Annette Moreland, Angela Moreland, Mattie Moreland, Christine Moreland, and Yolanda (Slevin) Merrick all of Akron, Ohio; three sisters; Sadie Mae Madison, Patricia Madison and Irene Madison; four brothers, Andrew (Peggy) Madison, Johnnie Ray Madison, Frankie (Darlene) Madison, and James B. Madison; 50 grandchildren; 173 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded by her parents; a daughter, Michelle Moreland; sisters, Margarette , Shirley, Betty, Ethel Mae and Maggie Lee; brothers, James B. Madison and James C. Madison; and special grandson, Dwyane Crump.
Services will be held Monday, February 9, 2026 at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, 1951 McGuffey Rd., Youngstown. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:00 noon.

My second awesome MOM! Ms. Helen touched the lives of everyone that crossed her path. Ms. Helen bought joy, laughter, love & caring to an empty spot.. She will be forever remembered in my heart & soul..I will always be forever grateful for her coming into my life..She taught me, showed me that life was worth living, showed me what a REAL person is..SHINE ON MS. MORELAND!!!
