Helen Opsitnick Obituary

Helen M. (Biesuz) Opsitnick, 99, of Export, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Export, a daughter of the late Luigi and Maria (Casagrande) Biesuz. Helen was the last surviving sibling and was the matriarch of the family. She was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Export, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and was a chairperson for the spaghetti dinners over the years. She was a social member of the Export Volunteer Fire Department, where she helped with fundraising. Helen was a parts runner for her late brother at George's Body Shop, and was employed by the former Thatcher's Motel in Delmont. She will be fondly remembered for her delicious food, especially her spaghetti sauce and sumptuous meatballs, topped off with a glass or two of Lambrusco. Helen cherished spending time with her family and was known as Gram to many who met her. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Opsitnick Sr.; a daughter, Jacqueline Learn; a great-grandson, Kameron Forbes; and siblings, John Biesuz, George Biesuz, Eli Biesuz, Esther Skandera, Mary Merich, Della Peters, Aldo Calder, and Rome Calder. Survived by her loving son, Stephen (Jenn) Opsitnick Jr.; grandchildren, Dr. Scott (Jenn) Learn, Lisa (Bob) Forbes, and Abby (Colin); great-grandchildren, Brandon Learn and Lucas (Matt) Greba; great-great-grandchildren, Haven and Emery Greba; goddaughter, Miya Perkins; sisters-in-law, Slivia Opsitnick and June Opsitnick; and special niece, Carlotta Thatcher. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. Helen's family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their assistance and Helen's daughter-in-law, Jen, for her special loving care. Friends are welcome Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the WOLFE-VON GEIS FUNERAL HOME INC., 5701 Lincoln Ave., Export 724-327-1400.
