A Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, granddaughter, mother-in law, niece, cousin, and friend. Helen Ann Peterson (nee Wall) passed away, peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 90 on August 15, 2025.
Helen was born in New Jersey on June 11, 1935. After spending some time in New York, her family eventually settled in Milwaukee. During her childhood, Helen cherished trips up north with her parents and her sister, Jane. One memorable year, a special robin greeted the family on their on their arrival and stay close during their stay, creating lasting memories. She took great pride in her father's work at Pillsbury, where he contributed to the creation of the original Pillsbury Doughboy.
While residing in Brown Deer, Helen was blessed with three children who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed bowling and working at Augie's, where she served pizza and beers with a smile. Helen owned her own condo while raising her children and worked as a secretary for many years at Shellenberger Gregg Inc., Fuel-Tronics Heating & Air Conditioning Inc., and Sears, where she was known to find some great clearance bargains.
Helen forged a close friendship with Christy, a neighbor just two doors down from her condo. Their bond was strengthened by their sons, who were best friends, and the two continued their friendship until her passing. Helen had a soft spot for rescue animals, welcoming into her home her beloved dogs Barney, Copper, and Brandy, as well as her cherished cats Miss Kitty, Tristan, and Miss Texas.
Helen loved attending bingo at Potawatomi, playing cribbage, rummy, and sheepshead with friends. She was also creatively talented, expressing herself through painting pictures, ornaments, and wooden crafts, which she showcased and sold at numerous craft fairs. Each family member treasures the handmade Christmas stocking she lovingly crafted upon their joining the family. Above all, Helen's greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and always making them her delicious peanut butter cookies.
In 2015, Helen moved into High Ridge Manor, where she formed many friendships and cherished her time with fellow residents. She especially enjoyed gathering in the community room for special events such as Elvis's impersonator shows, holiday parties, bingo games, the Packer pool and the birthday club.
Helen's great sense of humor and deep love for her family will continue to shine beyond her passing. She will forever remain in our hearts, bringing smiles and laughter as we cherish the happy memories shared together.
Helen is survived by her loving children Lori (Matt) Zylka, Lisa (Mike) Dean, Tim (Brenda) Peterson, her grandchildren Jamie Draheim, Angie (Dave) Bublitz, Ryan (Tina) Zylka, Nicole Rodriguez, Mathew Peterson, Samantha Peterson and her great-grandchildren Alex Merick Zylka, Alexia Zabrouski, Dawson Bublitz, Maya Bublitz, Logan Zylka, Chase Draheim, Makenna Zylka, Carter Draheim and Piper Peterson, her niece Colleen McGovern and nephew Michael (Donna) McGovern.
Helen was preceded in death by her father Lewis B. Wall, mother Isobel L. Wall (nee Jones) sister Jane McGovern, niece Lynn Greenwood, niece Kathy McGovern.
In accordance with Helen's wishes, there will be no funeral service. To celebrate her life, the family kindly suggests donating to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
