Helen Marie (Quinlan) Pohl, of Stoughton, formerly of Randolph, a beacon of kindness and unwavering faith, passed away unexpectedly, after a period of failing health, on April 26, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 13, 1937, in Boston, she was the cherished daughter of the late John and Mary (Doyle) Quinlan and the devoted wife of the late Edward A. Pohl, with whom she shared a loving marriage and a beautiful family.
Helen's life was a testament to her loving nature as she raised five children with grace and dedication. She was the proud and loving mother of Edward Pohl and his wife Tish of Fayetteville, AR; Ellen Comerford and her husband Patrick of Stoughton; Eileen Pohl-Domaldo and her husband James of Norton; Elizabeth "Beth" Annand and her husband Robert of Norton; and Bill Pohl and his wife Andrea of Stoughton. She lovingly nurtured her family, instilling in them values of love, kindness, and faith. Helen graciously welcomed Mary Ann Smith and her partner Brenda to the family many years later.
As a grandmother, Helen was affectionately known as Nana, a title that brought her immense joy. She was the cherished "Nana" to Justin Pohl and his wife Verena, Brandon Pohl and his wife Kelsey, Ashley Domaldo and her husband Charles Armstrong-Hicks, Timothy Annand, Christina Sullivan and her husband Kevin, Andrew Pohl, Rachel King and her husband Parker, Jillian Pohl, Joseph Annand, Liam Pohl, Kaylee Annand, and Nicolas Grajeda. Her role expanded with great delight as she became "Nana the Great" to Vivienne Pohl, Lorraine Hicks, Clare Sullivan, Quinton Hicks, and Maeve Sullivan. Helen's love knew no bounds, and she reveled in the growth and achievements of each of them.
Her siblings, the late Mary Krepelka, John Quinlan, Gerald Quinlan, Lorraine Lee, Donald Quinlan, Edward Quinlan, and Jean Powers, were a special part of her life, and she cherished the bonds she shared with them. Helen extended her love and care to her many nieces and nephews, and she surrounded herself with dear friends who became an extension of her family.
A graduate of South Boston High School, Helen held many jobs before marrying on September 9,1961. After marrying, Helen's primary role was raising her children. She later went on to work for over 30 years at Sudbury Farms supermarket in Randolph. Her colleagues knew her as a steadfast and friendly presence, someone who brought dedication and a smile to the workplace each day.
Helen's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary Church in Randolph. Her service to the church went beyond attendance; serving on numerous committees and volunteering countless hours. Her faith was her guide, and she lived it through her actions and her unwavering support of her church family.
Traveling and vacations on Cape Cod brought Helen great pleasure, providing cherished memories with her loved ones. She had great enjoyment traveling with sisters-in-law to places like Poland Spring Maine. Florida, Provincetown and Aruba. She especially enjoyed her trip with her sisters to Newfoundland Canada to see her parents' homeland. She also enjoyed the excitement of trips to the casino, indulging in the joy of the moment. Yet, it was the simple pleasure of being with her family and grandchildren that remained her main focus. She loved spending time with them, creating moments that would become the family's treasured memories.
Helen's legacy is one of love, kindness, and a faith-filled life. Those who knew her were touched by her unwavering commitment to her family and faith. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide them.
